UNCC and Forestview Meetup

This week in English was more productive than last week. On Wednesday, we met with Forestview students and talked about college readiness. I personally enjoyed this activity and found it very beneficial for the high school students. I wish my senior year high school English teacher arranged an opportunity that allowed me to talk to current college freshmen. I never had the privilege to sit down and talk to a college student on a one on one basis when I was in high school. In fact, if it weren’t for my older friends that came home for break, I really wouldn’t know much about college. I think that the UNCC and Forestview Meetup was a great opportunity for incoming freshmen to talk to a current freshmen about college and ask curious questions and get honest answers. I really enjoyed interacting with my small group and sharing my own experiences with them about college. I felt like I did help them become more college ready by giving them advices and tips about college. Hopefully, we can do another activity with the Forestview students because I really like to help people. In this picture below is a picture of my small groups’ chart to show all of the external influences (people, places, and things) that effect how you think, how you act, and what you do.

  1. I think all of us wrote blogs about forestview this week! I agree, I wish my teacher arranged something like that. They had so many questions to ask, and so did I as a senior. I wish I had a college student I cold ask anything about when I was in high school. I think they know what to expect more now that they have talked to us.

  2. I totally agree with you. I wish i had such an experience last year. I wouldn't have been too worry about taking classes in college.

  3. I have to admit they knew way more than I did as a High School senior 3 years ago. Me being a junior now I'm just now to a point where I'm ready for college lol..yes with only one year left..but my point is they are further along than I was at that level and I feel that they will do great when they begin college. I wish I had teachers like theirs (Mrs. G) in high school.

  4. I like helping people as well. It was a fun experience sharing our experience with younger students. Hopefully it will help them down the road.

  5. I wish I had been given the opportunity to talk with college students my senior year. It's one thing to have advice given from your parents, but it's another from your peers. I'm glad that our classes were able to help these students with their college readiness and decisions.
